The furthest inland port in Britain, Gloucester is a Roman city which lies on the Severn Estuary. It’s ancient tunnels and fortifications still exist underneath the city and these can be experienced in Gloucester’s museum.
Things to see and do
This ancient city offers plenty of attractions such as Gloucester Cathedral, which was used in the filming of the recent Harry Potter films. Also worth a look are the 18th Century Docks and the magnificent Prinknash Abbey. Outside of the city, the idyllic villages of the Cotswolds are close by, attracting thousands of visitors every year. The Malvern Hills and the Forest of Dean are also popular tourist destinations and are within close proximity of Gloucester.
